Boys & Girls Club youth engage in environmental issues

Provo – March 20, 2009 – While the United States Environmental Protection Agency is looking for ways to save the environment, Boys & Girls Clubs of Utah County is encouraging local youth to speak up about what Earth Day means to them.  In partnership with the local Disney store, Boys & Girls Club youth expressed their love of the environment by drawing or writing about what Earth Day means to them.

“Youth need to feel a sense of ownership for our environment,” said David Bayles, Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Utah County.  “Boys & Girls Clubs all over the nation are focusing on the BE GREAT, BE GREEN initiative, an effort to involve youth in taking an active role in improving their local environment.”

Over 100 youth at the Boys & Girls Club participated in Earth Day activities on March 20.  The Disney store provided recycled drawing panels and earth friendly art supplies for Club youth during the Earth Day celebration.  Youth projects will be on display at the Disney Store during the week of April 12.
